October 4, 2021
On October 4, 2021, we were honored to have Dr. Christopher Downing as a speaker. Our own Dr. Frank Donavan, Superintendent of the Magnolia elementary School District, introduced Dr. Downing. Dr. Downing has been the Superintendent of the Anaheim Elementary School District for the past 4
The Anaheim Elementary School District (AESD) believes in Safety for All. They follow guidance from state and local educational and public health including, but not limited to, California Department of Public Health, California Department of Education, Orange County Health Care Agency, and Orange County Department of Education.
With the pandemic slowing down, some of the social distancing requirements have been loosened. Physical distancing requirements have been reduced, barriers such as Plexiglas shields are no required in classrooms. Plexiglas shields will be provided in lounges, break rooms and public facing areas and in-person meetings may resume. Students and staff shall be assigned to a stable group that remains in the same space and is consistent as much as is possible.
Regarding building ventilation, the flow of outside air into the buildings have been increased. HALO LED air purifiers and stand-alone HEPA air purifiers have been provided throughout the district and 4-ply air filters have been installed in all HVAC Units.
Regarding hand hygiene, hand washing stops stocked with necessary supplies have been provided all over the schools; and places without adequate access to sinks have been provided with portable hand-washing stations. Instructional posters, regularly schedule hand washing sessions, and awareness of touching of eyes, nose, mouth, and other runny bits of the body have been enforced.
For cleaning and disinfecting, all custodial staff have been trained on all EPA-approved disinfectant use as well as the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. All office spaces and school sites will be deep cleaned and disinfected prior to the school year and all classrooms, offices, common areas and restrooms are sanitized daily. High touch areas will be sanitized continuously throughout the day.
Access to the school by non-essential visitors. Volunteers, and activities involving eternal groups is limited. Access to the school is not limited, however, for direct service providers.
AESD will follow all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines from all CDPH or school staff regarding the use of gowns, surgical masks, eye protection and gloves and the district will also identify the necessary PPE for every task and train staff on the safe use of PPE, how to put in on, wear it, and dispose of it properly.
Schools will also provide the Grab ‘n’ Go materials (face masks, antibacterial wet-wipes, hand sanitizer, and thermometers) to families and offer free COVID-19 testing for all students and staff.
Thank you, Christopher Downing for joining us at Anaheim Rotary, and thank you for your service to our community’s youth.
